TEST CLASS – DO NOT BOOK Advanced Knitting – Steeking (The First Cut!)

Description

As it is easier to knit stranded colourwork in a tube rather than back and forth in rows, in Scandinavia and the Shetland Isles colourwork garments are traditionally knitted in the round and then cut to create the front edge, armholes and neck, in a process called steeking. In this class, you will learn steek patterns, ways of reinforcing your steek, picking up stitches and subsequent edgings, trimming the steek, and blocking your knitting – all techniques designed to take the fear out of making that first cut.

You will need to bring:

  • Preferred 4mm needles for knitting a small diameter piece of circular knitting (for instance a sock length circular needle, 80cm circular needle for magic loop or set of DPNs)
  • 4mm crochet hook
  • A pair of sharp embroidery scissors
